I haven’t written a poem in a while. I’ve been busy with ‘doing’. Doing requires planning, a steady movement, a sort of armor. For me, poetry is feeling, stillness, openness. But with the shorter days and misty weather we’ve been having, I’ve recently felt the urge to poe again. So I’ve started to put a few lines down here and there. However, the poem I’ve been thinking about the most this last week was one I wrote for this year’s February Poetry Adventure:
Patch Work
If we could see the blind stitches in the seams of each unique soul perhaps we would understand how many pieces we’ve all been cut into perhaps we would comprehend how much work it’s taken to quilt ourselves back together perhaps we would accept all of us are just hanging on by threads perhaps we might find beauty in the comfort of our patchwork pattern
You know how much I love community. Community is often created from pieces that may, at first, seem like they don’t go together. It may feel like too many pieces and not enough unity. But with patient stitches and thoughtful construction, often, the final quilt is more interesting than one single piece of fabric. So I’ll keep looking for the beauty in our worn edges. I’ll acknowledge the rends. And I’ll keep stitching.
Love you, Petra ❤️

I love hearing your thoughts and comments on these posts. As always, this means I’m trusting you the reader to give me the benefit of the doubt if I say something weird, or create space for something which doesn’t align with what you think or where you are in your journey, just as I’ll do for you. And please extend the same courtesy to fellow commenters. This is a space to respect each other and the fact that being human is both amazingly beautiful and fucking complicated. Thank you for your respect.
Beautiful. Thank you!
